History

Social Media Breakfast (SMB) was born out of the early days of social media when blogging reigned supreme, Facebook was one interesting social network of a dozen, and Twitter’s lifespan was measured in months.  While interacting with SMB Founder Bryan Person, Rick Mahn (our founder), watched an interesting event take place… the first SMB.

When discussing the idea of bringing an SMB to the Twin Cities, Bryan suggested that Rick take the lead and organize one himself. That’s exactly what happened, and soon the 20 year Information Technology veteran became a community leader and event organizer. Talk about your career changes!

From its humble roots with only 18 people attending the initial SMBMSP meet up in February 2008 in Keys Cafe in downtown Minneapolis, we’ve grown to the largest SMB community in the world.  With over 2300 members and a growing series of social media oriented events, SMBMSP brings knowledgeable local thought leaders and social media practitioners to every discussion.

SMBMSP is where you’ll find the top Twin Cities social technology experts in fields as wide ranging as technology, marketing, human resources, public relations, community development, customer service, web development, and many more! Each of these passionate professionals is ready to share honest experiences and learning’s with their fellow members, and that is what makes SMBMSP the professional social media association it is quickly becoming.
